Safe Striking Skills Introduction
Getting Ready to Strike Safely Year 4 Physical Education Lesson 1
WALT - We Are Learning To
Strike a ball safely using proper technique Follow basic game rules and safety guidelines Work cooperatively and share equipment Develop our hand-eye coordination
What is Striking?
Think about sports and games you know Where have you seen people hit or strike balls? What equipment do they use?
Success Criteria - You Will Be Successful If You Can:
Describe one key safety rule when using bats Strike a stationary ball with controlled swing Use a balanced stance when striking Take turns and share equipment appropriately
Safety First! Equipment Rules
Always carry bats safely - down by your side Wait for your turn before picking up equipment Keep safe distance from others when swinging Listen for the teacher's whistle to stop
Basic Striking Technique
Grip: Hold the bat with both hands Stance: Feet shoulder-width apart Eye on the ball: Watch the ball carefully Swing: Controlled movement, not too hard
Differentiation - Everyone Can Succeed!
{"left":"Easier: Use bigger, softer balls and shorter distances\nHit ball off a cone using two-handed push motion\nBuddy support for positioning and encouragement","right":"Harder: Aim for specific target zones\nTry gentle underarm feeds instead of tees\nIncrease distance and accuracy challenges"}
Let's Practice! Station Activity
Station 1: Strike ball off tee into safe zone Station 2: Practice swing without ball Station 3: Fielding - collect and return balls Remember: Strike, run to cone, fielders help!
